Maria Island’s most awarded walk.

Why walk with us…

We are the only walk on Maria Island to be selected as one of the exclusive Great Walks groups.

To be selected, everything has to be outstanding: the scenic beauty of the walk, the elegant and exclusive accommodation, the candlelit dining and the experience and personality of the guides.  Not surprisingly it’s the only walk on the island to be officially listed as one of the Great Walks of Tasmania and Australia.

Having completed over 1300 walks over 18 seasons and received 8 National Tourism Awards, The Maria Island Walk is recognised as one of Australia’s outstanding experiences. We look forward to sharing it with you.

We are thrilled to have received the 2019 TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence award. Now in its ninth year, the achievement celebrates businesses that are consistently excellent – having earned great guest reviews on TripAdvisor over the past year.

“I would like to express my sincere thanks to Amy & Luke, who worked so hard to make our trip fun, comfortable and interesting. They were both wise and diplomatic – a real credit to TMIW. I have had the pleasure of working for a television travel/lifestyle show for 10 years so have seen a lot of ‘luxury’ experiences in that line of work. TMIW is one of the most wonderful I have come across – congratulations.”  Briony, SA, April 2018

“Exceptional staff. Attentive and thoughtful. Good fun to be with. We went spot lighting to achieve our count of 100 wombats. Hilarious & silly. A highlight. We would recommend the trip to anyone within an earshot.” Suzie, VIC, March 2018

“I was particularly impressed with the meticulous organisation. Everything was so well timed and executed. 10/10 to you guys. It was a trip of a lifetime. Thank you!”  Deborah, WA, January 2018

“This was our first guided walk. You have inspired us to do others. We really enjoyed it and have already recommended it to friends.” Denise, NSW, January 2018

“Amazing trip! Appreciated the low impact/sustainable approach. The guides were superb. Cared for us, made the trip feel like an adventure and really enhanced our experience. ”  Lara, VIC, December 2017

“The guides made the trip. They were genuinely friendly, had an obvious passion for Maria Island and made the history come to life. They also worked very hard. After cooking breakfast and lunch, providing morning and afternoon tea and guiding all day, particularly on the mountain day it was challenging to see them have to then make a 3 course dinner at the house. ”  Emma, TAS, November 2017

“This is our first guided walk so our future expectations are now very high. I can’t see how it could be improved.
Fantastic    Fabulous    Educational    Fun    Strenuous (love it)    Delicious!!”

Sally, QLD October 2017

“The best value for money I have spent. I was travelling on my own for this trip and luckily had two excellent guides and a great mix of people. My roommate was a Scottish lady who had walked all over the world and she said it was one of the best. Sue and Ziah really made this walk exceptional. Their love for Tasmania and Maria Island was evident. They took care of every aspect of the trip. I will be recommending this walk 100% as I could not find fault.”  Emma, VIC, February 2017

“All in all it was a marvellous time and I think good value for our dollars! Would definitely do it again one day and will thoroughly recommend this walk to others. Good luck for the future! ”  Mary Clare, QLD, February 2017

“Jo and Pat were the very best guides I have ever experienced in my 40 years of travelling. Thank you so much!”  Prue, NSW, February 2017

“Thank you for a beautiful holiday experience. The island was spectacular and we certainly were given a great opportunity to explore it. Everything you offered was first class and the little extra touches (photo, water bottle etc) were welcomed and appreciated. Would thoroughly recommend your trip (and have been doing so!)” Pamela, QLD, January 2017

“This was by far one of the best things I have ever done. The natural beauty of Maria Island is breathtaking. In terms of the trip, it was exceptionally well organised with every little detail thought of. As a novice, it was great to have gear like packs provided. The food was outstanding. Big thanks to our wonderful guides Dan and Jai who really made the trip! P.s I literally forgot about work on the trip – that has never happened before!!!” Marlene, VIC, January 2017

“The whole Maria Island walk was wonderful – we loved the experience. The guides were outstanding, the walk well-paced, the food and wine of the highest quality and the camp sites comfortable. In addition we were fortunate to have brilliant weather, a terrific group of people to walk with. Our guides Jo and Maddie were super skilled and not phased by setbacks. They just whipped up some bread & a lemon tart. 10/10 Very impressed. ” Glenys, VIC, January 2017

“This was the first time I’ve ever done a walking/camping style holiday. It was an amazing experience. The guides Gemma & Jai were fantastic. Nothing was an issue for them. The quality of the camp sites – amazing! I think Gemma was shocked when I told her how much I enjoyed the shower!! The food and wine was lovely. I haven’t stopped talking about the trip. A wonderful trip. Thank you, Ann.” Ann, NSW, December 2016

“What can I say! The experience was wonderful & enjoyed all elements. Andy and Sharna were very professional, confident & involved the tour group along the way. Congratulations of what your company has achieved. I’m a big supporter of the Maria Island Walk and will promote it to those who ask what the walk was like.” Lyn, NSW, November 2016

“Thank you! Celebrating 10 years together ‘the girls group’ enjoyed a simply gorgeous 4 days and 3 nights on Maria Island. We even spotted a Tasmanian Devil! As I travel home to BrisVegas, I am doubtful my family will live up to the hospitality of Sue and Sam. How lovely it was to hear ‘your entrée is now served’. A trip to remember. Thank you.” Belinda, QLD, April 2016

“Thank you for a wonderful walk. I really enjoyed the opportunity to escape the pressure of everyday life and to be taken on a walk that features one of Australia’s most beautiful landscapes.  I appreciated the expertise and care of the guides who catered to our every need. They generously share their wealth of knowledge and were fabulous hosts. Shall definitely recommend the walk to friends and family.” Liz, QLD, April 2016

“I have enjoyed both guided and un-guided walks over the past 15 years. I selected The Maria Island Walk as I have always wanted to complete a 3 generation family walk – with my mum at 75 years + my daughter at 15  years. This walk ticked every box. It offered natural beauty, plenty of wombat sightings, spectacular vistas + history. The side options gave the extra challenge for my daughter and I, while mum could enjoy the comfort of the bush camps + Bernacchi House. For a guided walk it will be my number 1 recommendation.” Suzy, QLD, March 2016

“The overall experience was fantastic. You really have a wonderful trip and special part of Australia. Thank you for allowing me to just sit back and be looked after so well.” Sam, NSW, March 2016

“One of the best trips I’ve been on. The 4 days went just too fast. Walking barefoot when we first arrived on the island was just wonderful! Can’t suggest anything to improve the walk – the guides, the camps, the food, wine, everything was excellent. Thank you!” Julie, WA, March 2016

“The walk was wonderful in every way: accommodation, food, wildlife, walks, companionship and expert guides. Superbly well organised. In many ways, it was brought to life by Dan and Wil, through their knowledge of local flora and fauna, history and by their overall enthusiasm.” Mike and Alan Wright, UK, March 2016

“I cut the ad from a magazine many years ago and kept it until about Sept 2015 when I threw it out as I thought I would never go. However, the planets aligned and we got there. It was worth all these years of dreaming of doing this walk and it met every expectation. Gemma was an absolute marvel at getting me to the top of Bishop & Clerk – she knew I could do it! Sue was the best “host” I’ve ever had on any trip. They both must be highly commended on their generosity and professionalism.” Morgen, VIC, February 2016

“Paul and I have recently returned from the Maria Island Walk. We would like to express our gratitude for an amazing experience.  We have chatted to many of our friends and family and have relayed our fantastic experience. From beginning to end it was quality care and guidance. We were fortunate to have two amazing guides in Claire and Samantha.  Their professionalism, care, knowledge and attention to all details was a credit not only to them, but to your company. Speaking on behalf of our wonderful group and as per your slogan: “Four days that will last a lifetime! Thank you for the best holiday ever.” Lory and Paul, VIC, February 2016

“I’m still on a high remembering different aspects of the 4 days. Maria Island has so much to offer; everything the rest of Tasmania has to offer in a compact package!! Your walk takes advantage of all the variety of experiences especially the island’s history which was a surprise. Please pass on my compliments to Alana who showed maturity way beyond her years and to Gemma who did so well on her first walk as a guide. They were both patient, helpful, efficient, informative, great cooks – lots of fun!” Valerie, NSW, November 2015

“It was a wonderful 4 days and memories I will keep forever. I would not hesitate to recommend this trip to anyone who will listen J Everything was fantastic and could not find fault in anything if I tried. Thank you for a fantastic wonderful trip!” Louisa, NSW, November 2015

“We have very much enjoyed our Maria Island (aka Wombat Island) experience with a great group of Adelaidians and our super human guides, Andy + Luke. Thanks guys for all you’ve done to make our trip something quite special.” Trudi & Doug, SA, November 2015

“The Maria Island Walk is one of the best trips I have been on. The organisation from start to finish is an 11 out of 10. The food and wine far exceeded expectations and our tour guides Jo and Anna are two absolutely amazing young women who love Tasmania and what it produces. One of the great things about the trip was the way they highlight Tasmanian food and wine. The group dynamics were unbelievable. The group of women gelled from getting on the bus and from then one we were a tight team. I don’t think I have ever laughed so much or enjoyed myself so much with a group of women. This has given me so much confidence to do more trips on my own as a solo traveller. Thank you!” Bernadette, New Zealand, November 2015

“To Alana, Luke, and Will – Thank you so much for the wonderful hospitality and guidance. You guys were amazing! It made our honeymoon a very special and memorable one. Keep going, and we will definitely be back. Love Dennis & June.” Singapore, October 2015

“First time walkers, we weren’t sure how we would go but we were pulled together by Sean and Jo. Amazing place and the food was superb – a wonderful experience and we had a great group of walkers to share our experience. Thank you!” Robyn, VIC, March 2015
